Gunter ISD Families:

There has been a lot of confusion about Dyslexia supports and services following the passage of House Bill 3928, which made dyslexia a part of special education services if a student requires direct dyslexia instruction. In order for a student to meet eligibility for special education, a student must have the (1) eligibility for dyslexia AND (2) require specially designed instruction (including a dyslexia program). As with all special education students, the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (“ARD”) committee determines each student’s supports and services and are individualized. The District does not rush students through the dyslexia program, but looks at the individual student needs and progress.

If a student has the eligibility of dyslexia, but does not require specially designed instruction, then support can be provided to the student through Section 504.

The goal of Gunter ISD is to educate parents and work collaboratively to provide the supports and services a student requires to make progress and meet students where they are individually.
