Gunter ISD is excited to welcome Adam Johnson to the Tiger family for the 2023-24 school year. Adam is joining the GISD staff as our new Band Director.

In the fall of 2023 Mr. Johnson will be starting his 7th year as a band director. His love of music began at Crestview High School in Florida where he was a prominent member of a renown 6A band program. His outstanding band directors inspired him to pursue a career in teaching music. He followed in their footsteps and attended the school of music at the University of Southern Mississippi. He obtained bachelor degrees in Music Education and Performance at the top of his class. He was then offered an assistantship at Southern Miss and he began teaching while completing his master’s degree.

Following the advice of his college mentors, Mr. Johnson moved to Texas in 2017 to be amongst the best band programs in the country. He taught at Daingerfield High School for four years; two of which as head director. He then became the head band director at Waskom High School, where he has been for the last two years. Since moving to Texas, his bands have obtained many historic achievements including first-ever sweepstake awards, and appearances at area finals in the most competitive 3A area in the state. Mr. Johnson’s goal is to inspire his students to love music in the way his directors did for him. He teaches his students how to achieve their goals in all things through the pursuit of excellence.
