When the opportunity to teach in Gunter was extended, I took the offer with great enthusiasm.  I believe Chemistry affects everything around us, whether directly or indirectly.  Even though some of the information they learn today may be obsolete in the future, the skill of "learning" will never become obsolete.

Classroom Communication

  •  Please add yourself to my Remind class in which you are enrolled or your student is enrolled.

To sign up, please text the code beside each class to 810-10 (or use your app). Students will be strongly encouraged to sign up for Remind for each class of mine in which they are enrolled as well as use google classroom with the school Gmail account. I use these two modes of communication for students. My school Gmail account is: tgittens@faculty.gunterisd.org.

Grading Policy

Nine Weeks Class Grading

Class participation is key to student success; therefore, a participation grades and completion grades may be included in each quarter. A student cannot succeed if they are not prepared for class. I also give note check grades periodically to encourage students to be organized and to keep up with class work.  Notes may be graded weekly.  Notebooks are to be kept with a Table of Contents (written on my board for up to 3 weeks at a time) and will be at least on quiz grade per quarter.

Daily work (essays, daily and homework assignments) = 50%  Quizzes may be recorded twice or used in lieu of a test grade for regular classes.  Advanced classes have  30% quiz/lab grade and 20% daily work.  Students who do not pass a quiz will be required to attend Study Hall/Tiger Time. Pay Day quizzes may occur daily and are cumulative for one grade at the end of the week and/or section. Pay Days are over material being studied in class as well as overnight homework, etc., to determine student mastery and encourage the 3-3-3 study method. 3-3-3 is read over the material 3 times for 3 minutes for 3 consecutive days to really learn a concept.

Tests/Projects = 50%  Test Corrections are offered for all students but MANDATORY if a student fails a test.  Corrections periods are normal tutorial/Study Hall/ Tiger Time periods.  Tests/projects are 50% for both regular and advanced classes.

Please see individual Class Description links to the right for more information. Each student will also be required to keep a signed hardcopy in their notebooks.

Cheating/ Plagiarism

Cheating and plagiarism are serious offenses and will not be tolerated. Any student who is found to be cheating on homework, a quiz or a test shall receive a failing grade or zero, and shall be dealt with by administration relative to the Student Handbook.  Additionally, any classroom material submitted for evaluation determined to be plagiarized shall be given a failing grade or zero, shall forfeit the right to make-up the assignment, and shall be dealt with by administration relative to the Student Handbook.

Be aware that copying from another student or allowing another student to copy from you is not acceptable on any assignment or in any situation other than teacher-assigned group work. This behavior is called cheating, not helping, and will result in the procedures described above.

Extra Credit

Extra credit is given sparingly or not at all. Students are encouraged to take part in the correction process at Tiger Time for 30% credit back on Tests/Quizzes/etc. Extra credit is extra work and is not meant to replace work not completed in class. It is work that is in addition to required or expected behavior to prepare for class.

Please see Class Descriptions for further explanation. Thank you.
