Rules and Guidelines
CARL & GLADYS KERFOOT SCHOLARSHIP RULES & GUIDELINES
(Revised June 9, 2016; Effective for the 2016-17 School Year)
Background and Purpose
The Carl and Gladys Kerfoot Trust for the benefit of Gunter High School was established on September 25, 1975. The primary purpose of the Trust was to provide scholarships for graduates of Gunter High School and other financial benefits approved by the Trust. Payout is sent to Wells Fargo Bank N.A. for final approval and check preparation.
I. Scholarship Requirements
1. General Requirements.
A. Residency requirements.
1. Student must be a district resident and attend Gunter High school their entire Junior and Senior years.
2. A transfer student must attend the entire four years, Freshman through Senior.
B. Signed Kerfoot Application and completed W-9 must be on file with the Gunter ISD Kerfoot Scholarship Administrator and Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.
C. Proof of successful completion of a minimum of twelve hours per semester with at least a 2.60 GPA on a 4.0 scale at an accredited University or College.
D. A student must enroll in a college or university no more than two years after high school graduation. A student who does not qualify for funds and receive them at least once during any two (2) year period after student has first enrolled in a college or university will no longer be eligible for any funds. A student has five (5) years to complete their eligibility for the eight (8) semesters of payments from the initial time of enrollment in a college or university.
E. A scholarship may be denied as a result of improper school accreditation or inappropriate program of study as determined by trustees.
2. Military Service Requirements.
A. Must enter military service within one (1) year after high school graduation.
B. Must enroll in college within one (1) year of minimum military obligation.
II. Payment Schedule
1. General requirements.
A. Under sixty-five semester hours at the beginning of that semester - $400 after a successful completion of each semester having passed a minimum of twelve (12) hours with a minimum of a 2.60 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
B. Over sixty-five semester hours at the beginning of that semester - $600 after successful completion of each semester after having passed a minimum of twelve (12) hours with a minimum of a 2.60 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
C. Grade due dates are January 30 for the Fall Semester and June 30 for the Spring Semester. No payments will be made for Summer Semesters.
D. Payments will be made by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. within sixty (60) days and sent to the Gunter ISD Kerfoot Administrator. Checks will be mailed out or picked up-per written instruction from scholarship recipient.
E. To receive payment, student must furnish an official transcript showing successful completion of a minimum of twelve (12) hours with a 2.60 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Misrepresentation of grades could result in permanent scholarship disqualification.
F. Limit of payments for undergraduate studies:
a. Payments will be limited to no more than eight (8) semesters of units of study.
b. Payments for Junior College will be no more than $400 per semester for over sixty-five (65) hours.
Rules and guidelines are subject to revision as deemed necessary by the Kerfoot Board of Trustees.
