Graduation Requirements

CPR

CPR training is a graduation requirement for Texas high school students. Specifically, Texas law mandates that school districts provide instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to students in grades 7 through 12, and that each student receives this instruction at least once before graduating.

This training is not always linked to formal certification, but it must include hands-on practice and be based on nationally recognized guidelines.  Students receive this training from our school nurses.

Peace Officer

In Texas, high school students are required to receive instruction on proper interaction with peace officers as a graduation requirement. This instruction, which includes a 16-minute video and related curriculum, must be provided at least once before graduation, typically within a student's high school social studies courses.

The aim is to educate students on their rights, the duties of law enforcement, and appropriate behavior during interactions with peace officers.

FAFSA

Texas law requires high school seniors to either complete a FAFSA, TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid), or submit a signed opt-out form to graduate.

Completing the opt-out form for financial aid applications in Texas does not affect a student's ability to apply for and receive financial aid in the future. The opt-out form allows students to waive the graduation requirement of completing a FAFSA or TASFA. However, it doesn't prevent them from applying for financial aid at any time, including after graduating or if they change their minds.
