I am not just Texan but a true country girl.  I graduated from Pottsboro High School and then Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a Biology/ Health Allied Science Degree.  I have two children who both attend Gunter.  My hobbies are hunting, fishing, camping, cooking and being with my family as much as I can.   My Philosophy-- Children of today are tomorrow's future.  What do you want to prepare them to become?  Doctors, lawyers, engineers, farmers, welders, mechanics or other future fellow teachers...success should have no limits to individual greatness.  Greatness is different for everyone!  Encouragement, effectiveness, and motivation are the key components that should be a part of every teacher's daily goal.  When this is implemented in a classroom all students will achieve their level of success.

Classroom Expectations

The following guidelines will create a comfortable and productive learning environment for everyone.

 You can expect me:

  • To start class on time and lead a productive class.

  • To reply to e-mails within 24 hours on weekdays and 48 hours on weekends.

  • To assign homework that adequately covers the material and meets the learning objectives of the course.

  • To give exams that accurately reflect the material covered in class and assigned in homework.

 I can expect you:

  • To come to class on time.

  • To be attentive and engaged in class.

  •  To refrain from using negative behavior that would distract others from learning.

  •  To spend an adequate amount of time on the homework each week, making an effort to solve and understand each problem.

  • To engage with both the abstract and computational sides of the material.

  •  To seek help when appropriate.

Grading Policy

Biology Grade Scale

Daily work/ Class activities = 60%
Tests/ Quizzes/ Lab Write-ups/ Reports/ Projects = 40%

Pre AP Biology Grade Scale

Daily work/ Class activities = 20%
Quizzes/ Lab reports = 30%
Tests/ Projects = 50%

Accountability Grading

Daily work will be checked often to make sure you are keeping up with the timing of the class. If daily work is not completed in time, then a tally mark is given in the gradebook for each occurrence. Each tally mark is worth 3 points.  Points are added up at the end of the nine weeks and go in the gradebook as a test grade. (ex. workbook, vocabulary, foldables, and video sheets)

Cheating/ Plagiarism

Cheating and plagiarism are serious offenses and will not be tolerated. Any student who is found to be cheating on homework, a quiz or a test shall receive a failing grade or zero, shall forfeit the right to make-up the assignment, quiz or test, and shall be dealt with by administration relative to the Student Handbook. Additionally, any classroom material submitted for evaluation determined to be plagiarized shall be given a failing grade or zero, shall forfeit the right to make-up the assignment, and shall be dealt with by administration relative to the Student Handbook.

Be aware that copying from another student or allowing another student to copy from you is not acceptable on any assignment or in any situation other than teacher-assigned group work. This behavior is called cheating, not helping, and will result in the procedures described above.

Extra Credit

Extra credit is given sparingly in this class and is by teacher discretion. Extra credit is extra work and is not meant to replace work not completed in class.  Late extra credit work will never be accepted unless an absence was involved.
