What’s better than a Friday at school? Maybe homemade apple pies on Friday!

Mrs. Martindale’s and Mrs. Rumage’s 1st graders have been reading the book, “How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World” by Marjorie Priceman. This book takes readers around the world to gather ingredients for a delicious apple pie. The students learned about the vocabulary words "spoiled, orchard, churn, harvest and ingredients" and then brought churn to life by actually churning their own butter! Once they completed their reading, they spent a Friday afternoon making some delicious apple pies. Thank you to the parent volunteers who helped the students fill, crimp, and bake the pies in their air fryers.

The students were able to use the butter they churned on their crust before they drizzled some yummy icing over the top. They, of course, had to wait for the pies to cool before they ate them, but check out the smiles once they got that yummy goodness in their mouth!

Learning is always fun at GES :)
