Teaching Philosophy

I believe that all students have the potential to learn science and to think like scientists.  I believe that the science classroom should be a classroom where all students are actively engaged in learning and in inquiry.  I love the definition of inquiry given by the National Science Education Standards.  "Inquiry is a multifaceted activity that involves making observations; posing questions; examining books and other sources of information to see what is already known; planning and conducting investigations; reviewing what is already known in light of experimental evidence; using tools to gather, analyze, and interpret data; proposing answers, explanations, and predictions; and communicating the results."  My goal is to provide students with opportunities to engage in inquiry and to guide them in acquiring the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Objectives.
