                                                    WRITING WORKSHOP

We are still working on our five page books.  We have been studying vivid verbs, onomatopeoia, and alliteration.  These books are worked on only at school so you will not see them come home for another week or so.  The kids are all off to a great start and are working hard to make their stories exciting.

Your child's 5- page book is due Wednesday, October 22.

SPELLING
Our new words are   able,  dog,  shown,  mean,  English
We are focusing on the frequent spelling patterns for /e/ which are e, ea, ee, and y.
Most of our spelling activities are done in class with only the occasional activity coming home for you to help your child complete.

Activity on page 6 due on Friday, October 24th.

MATH
We will cover Lessons 31 through 35 this week.  Your child should be bringing home their Saxon Math textbook every evening .  They have 30 problems for homework nightly unless we have taken a test that day.
www.gamequarium.com  and www.funbrain.com have a variety of good math games to help with addition, subtraction and multiplication facts.

Parents - Please make sure your child is reading from their library book for at least 15 minutes every evening.  I conference with the students at least once a week so it is important that they are reading and are able to answer specific questions about the setting, plot, characters, and  sequence of events.  I encourage you to listen to your child read and ask questions as you go along.
