Welcome to Agriculture,Food,&Natural Resources (AFNR)Classes
and Gunter FFA!
My name is Adrian O'Hanlon, Jr. I am the Agriscience Teacher at Gunter High School. I have been teaching since 1985 and arrived in Gunter in 1997. This year begins a new era of curriculum in Agricultural Education. We are now one of the clusters called Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources - AFNR (AFNR sounds a little like Abner, Afner)
I believe that ALL students in AFNR as FFA members gain the full benefits of the classroom, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. At this time our school pays an affiliation fee so that ALL students in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources may be members of the FFA.
By being enrolled in an AFNR course, you have joined the Gunter FFA! The FFA supports the classroom education students receive in AFNR. FFA develops leadership, citizenship, and self-confidence.
EVERY STUDENT ENROLLED IN AN AGRISCIENCE CLASS MUST HAVE A THREE-RING NOTEBOOK (1 inch ONLY) WITH POCKETS, NOTEBOOK PAPER, PENCILS (NECESSARY FOR RECORD BOOKS), PENS ARE OPTIONAL (BLUE OR BLACK INK ONLY). THE 3 RING NOTEBOOK WILL BE FILED IN THE AG. CLASSROOM. ALL Agriscience classes are required to have an SAE record book. See attachment (Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.doc) Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.doc
Students will receive information to inform parents of upcoming events. PARENTS: look at the Gunter ISD High School site for the Calendar of FFA and FFA Alumni events.
The FFA Alumni is a support organization of ANYONE interested in the welfare of FFA members. All parents are encouraged to join. The Alumni Association joins together to provide assistance to the Agriscience Teacher and the FFA members. The FFA Alumni provides a graduating Senior in FFA for 3 years a scholarship of $1,000. Check the GISD site calendar for times of events.
More information will follow about special projects in individual classes. Students will be given plenty of time to complete certain projects that are due at the end of the Semester before Semester Exams are given.
The Gunter Agriculture Department/FFA office phone can be accessed 24 hours a day at: 903-696-0117. COME JOIN THE FUN WHERE FAMILIES COME TOGETHER!
