The Kerfoot Trust

The Carl and Gladys Kerfoot Trust was established September 25, 1975 for the benefit of the Gunter Schools. It provides scholarships and other financial benefits for the Gunter schools. The trust is administered by a local Board of Trustees.

Graduates who attend Gunter their junior and senior years or transfers who attend Gunter all four years are eligible for the Kerfoot Scholarship Award. This award provides funds for students to attend accredited universities, colleges, and junior colleges.

Students receive $500 per semester for the first two years and $750 per semester for the final two years. Payments are made at the end of each semester provided the student passes 12 or more semester hours with a 2.4 GPA.

RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR KERFOOT SCHOLARSHIP

(Revised effective March 1, 2004)

BACKGROUND & PURPOSE

The Carl and Gladys Kerfoot Trust for the benefit of Gunter High School was established on September 25, 1975. The primary purpose of the Trust was to provide scholarships for graduates of Gunter High School and other financial benefits approved by the Trust, which is administered by a local Board of Trustees.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

I. General requirements

A. Residency requirements

1. Student must be a district resident and attend Gunter High School their entire Junior and Senior years. Tioga students are considered residents.

2. A transfer student must attend the entire four years, Freshman through Senior.

B. Signed application on file with the Gunter I.S.D. (For subsequent semesters please notify the Superintendent's office in person, by mail or phone of your intent to enroll.)

C. Proof of successful completion of a minimum of twelve hours per semester with at least a 2.4 GPA on a 4.0 scale at an accredited University or College.

D. A student must enroll in a college or university no more than two years after high school graduation. A student who does not qualify for funds and receive them at least once during any two year period after the student has first enrolled in a college or university will no longer be eligible for any funds. A student has six years to complete their eligibility for the ten semester hours of payments from the initial time of enrollment in a college or university.

E. A scholarship may be denied as a result of improper school accreditation or inappropriate program of study as determined by trustees.

II. Military Service Requirements

A. Must enter military service within one year after high school graduation.

B. Must enter college within one year of minimum military obligation.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE

I. Under sixty-five semester hours-$500 after successful completion of each semester having passed a minimum of twelve hours with a minimum of a 2.4 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

II. Over sixty-five semester hours at the beginning of that semester:

A. $750 after successful completion of each semester after having passed a minimum of twelve hours with a minimum of a 2.4 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

B. $500 after having passed a minimum of twelve summer hours with a minimum of a 2.4 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

III. Post-graduate studies-$50 per hour up to thirty-six hours. Post-graduate studies must start within one calendar year after completing undergraduate degree. Effective for graduating class 2004 and beyond there will be no post-graduate studies scholarship funds available.

IV. Payment will be made after each semester of study with checks being issued within thirty days of the grade due date. Grade due dates are January 1, June 1 and September 1.

V. Payments will be made directly to each student through the Superintendent's office of the GISD.

VI. To receive payment, student must furnish a semester grade report showing successful completion of a minimum of twelve semester hours. An official transcript must be provided to the Kerfoot Board annually. Misrepresentation of grades could result in permanent scholarship disqualification.

VII. Limit of payments for undergraduate studies:

A. Payments will be limited to no more than 10 semesters of units of study. (Completion of 12 summer hours constitutes a semester).

B. Payments for Junior Colleges will be no more than $500 per semester for over sixty-five hours.
