I.S.D. Dress Code
Revised June 20, 2005
The Gunter Independent School District has a student dress code for all
grades and all campuses. All students are required to wear the dress code
each day during school hours except for those special days approved at
the discretion of the school administrators.
- Shirts/Blouses/Turtlenecks
- All collared shirts/blouses/turtlenecks must have sleeves.
- All shirts/blouses and turtlenecks must be tucked in at all times and
must stay - tucked in when arms are raised.
- Only the top button can be unbuttoned.
- No tight or form fitted shirts/blouses.
- Layered attire--Top shirt must be a finished out shirt, bottom layer
must be tucked in.
- No sheer or see through.
- School sponsored T-shirt may be worn.
- Solid, striped, or multi-color T-shirts that are (plain, round (crew)
necked t-shirts like the t-shirts used for Gunter ISD sponsored t-shirts.)
Sweatshirts/Vests/Sweaters
- V-Neck sweaters must be worn with collared shirt or turtleneck underneath.
- Only Gunter school logos.
- No lettering or wording on sweaters/sweatshirts.
- No sleeveless sweaters/sweatshirts.
- Sweaters and sweatshirts do not have to have a collar.
- Only appropriate designs are allowed such as stripes, multi colors,
etc.
- If a button up (cardigan) sweater is worn over a shirt, the bottom shirt
must be tucked in.
- If a student wears a matching sweater set (sold as matching sweater
set), neither of them have to be tucked in. The underneath sweater must
be an appropriate length so that if the student raises his/her arm no
midriff shows.
Sweaters and sweatshirts do not have to be tucked in if the student can
raise his/her arm without the midriff showing.
Slacks/Capri's/Jeans
Style: Pleated or flat slacks, jeans, or below the knee capri's.
- All must be worn at the waist, and be properly hemmed or cuffed.
- Belts must be worn inside belt loops at all times--optional for PreK-4th.
- No sweatpants, wind pants, pajama bottoms, warm-ups, coveralls or overalls.
- No baggy-style legs.
- No shorts (except in PE/Athletics and Cheer classes).
- No cargo pants.
- Only regular side and back pockets are allowed--no pockets with zippers,
velcro or buttons.
Shorts-Only Pre-K-4th Grade
- Shorts must be no more than 3 inches above the middle of the knee-cap
(Both in front and back).
- No mesh shorts.
Skirts/Dresses/Jumpers
- Length must be below the knee.
- Kick-pleat, or slits may not extend above the knee.
- No low-cut neckline or sleeveless dresses.
- Must wear collared shirt under jumpers.
Head and Footwear
- No hats, caps, or other head covering may be worn inside the buildings.
- Shoes must be worn at all times.
- No house shoes, beach shoes, shower shoes, or flip-flops.
Coats/Jackets
- Cannot wear shirts as jackets.
- No long trench style coats/jackets.
Other Guidelines
- Clothing can be no more than one size larger than the student's measurements;
nor may the garment be too tight.
- No gang related, or heavy metal clothing/items.
- No spandex, nylon, or stretch type materials on any clothing.
- No hip huggers, or hip hugger style.
- Must wear belts with garments with belt loops.
- Must be hemmed and free of holes.
- No fraying or patches.
Hair
- No sideburns past the earlobes.
- No goatees or beards.
- Boys' hair may not extend past the bottom of the collar of the shirt,
below the earlobe, or below the eyebrows. No ponytails, pigtails or braids.
- No unnatural hair coloring such as green, purple, etc.
- No symbols cut into the hair or gang styles.
Jewelry and Other Accessories
- All tattoos must be covered and hidden at all times.
- No visible body piercing other than ears.
- Boys may not wear earrings or nail polish.
- No sunshades or sunglasses in buildings.
- No chains on wallets.
Administrators will have complete and final judgment on all matters concerning
interpretation of the student's dress code. Matters concerning appearance
and dress not specifically covered in the dress code policy shall be within
the discretion of the administration.
