THE COMMUNITY
The Gunter I.S.D. is located in northern Collin and southern Grayson Counties. It is the southern most gateway to the Lake Texoma Area. Lake Ray Roberts is ten miles to the west. The District serves both the communities of Gunter and Tioga. Tioga's high school age students attend Gunter High School.

Gunter is experiencing growth at the present time, and with the expansion of Preston Road and five housing additions in the area, the school district will increase more than the usual 7% over the next few years. With the opening of our new elementary school, and the expansion of the high school, all of our campuses should accommodate the growth for two to three more years.

The largest employer of Gunter is Hilltop Haven, a branch of Christian Centers, which employs 180 people. Gunter Lumber and Mill employs approximately twenty. There are other locally owned businesses which include a grocery store, convenience store, beauty shop, woodsmith shop, real estate office, and an automobile repair shop. We recently added a Sonic and Dollar General located right across from the high school.

THE AREA
In addition to the local employers there are several companies north and south of Gunter that provide excellent employment opportunities. South Sherman contains Texas Instruments and Tyson. Also located in Sherman is Sherman Town Center, Midway Mall and many other shopping and dining opportunities. Frisco is south of Gunter, allowing for more opportunities of shopping, dining and entertainment. The Rough Riders are located in Frisco - not too far to drive for a family outing!

There are several institutions of higher learning located in the area. Two junior colleges (Grayson County and Collin County Community) and one private college (Austin College) are all located within thirty minutes of Gunter. The University of North Texas and Texas Women's University are only 45 minutes southwest of Gunter; Texas A&M at Commerce and Southeastern Oklahoma State University are only an hour's drive.

Recreational opportunities are exceptional with all water sports and fishing available at both area lakes. For those interested in golf, there are several courses within fifteen minutes of Gunter. Numerous multi-screen theaters are just minutes away.

Three major hospitals which provide excellent medical care are located in the Sherman/Denison area. McKinney and Plano also have major hospital facilities within thirty minutes.

A local airport is less than thirty minutes away while it only takes forty-five minutes toto an hour to get to both DFW International and Love Field.
